Abstract

Biodiversity is gaining increasing importance on the international scene. Reflecting this growing of importance are the United Nations General Assembly's Sustainable Development Goals 14 and 15: life at sea and life on earth. Within these objectives, biodiversity is used as an indicator of the efficiency of measures to achieve these objectives. In the era of climate change and sustainable development there is no more central theme. Biodiversity conservation is important to minimize the effect of climate change: more diverse communities are more likely to be in a changing climate. Sustainable exploitation of biodiversity enables communities to develop in a more balanced way based on diverse resources and diverse activities, making them more resilient to adverse impacts of both economic origin and root causes of climate change.
