Painting and cinema as languages of the same aesthetic ecosystem An analysis of Hans Richter's “Rythmus21” and its relationship with Hans Arp's Dadaism

Abstract
This text seeks to think about the relationship between one of the first films of the experimental and pioneering cinematographic work of the director Hans Richter and the main avant-garde movement of the time that became known as Dadaism that shaped the visual arts panorama in Europe in the period between two major world wars. Richter's experimental cinema is then contrasted with Harp's painting and both languages in what is unique are analysed within a perspective that we define (based on Medeiros and Pimentel, 2013) as an aesthetic ecosystem.

Leonardo Charréu, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa
Graduated in Plastic Arts: Painting, from the University of Porto, Master in Art History from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Évora and in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. He currently conducts post-doctoral studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Training and Research in Arts and Design at the Escola Superior de Educação of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. He is an integrated research member of CIEBA (Center for Research and Studies in Fine Arts), CIED (Interdisciplinary Center for Educational Studies) and GEPAEC (Group of studies in Education, Art and Culture (Brazil). The Training of Teachers of Visual Arts , the New Learning Environments (Museums and Education, Cinema and Education), Visual Culture and the Relationship between Art and Science (Scientific Illustration) are among his main academic and investigative interests.
Ana Charréu
Attended the degree in Plastic Arts at the Higher School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém. Currently, she has a degree in Sound and Image at the Superior School of Art and Design of Caldas da Rainha, of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. Visual artist with artistic, investigative and performative interests in the areas of Concept Art, Animation Cinema and Documentary and Experimental Cinema. She is a freelance author / editor of Animation works published on free-access digital platforms. He also has interests in the area of digital creative microeconomics and video games.
