Amazon rainforest: looking at the environmental discourses and the Brazilian politics

Abstract
The following work was from the doctoral dissertation presented at the New University of Lisbon, entitled “The Legitimizing Environmental Discourses and the Politics Surrounding the Amazon Rainforest”. The referred thesis presents the results of a study about the political power regarding the Amazonian Rainforest. Considering that Political Science revolves around the practical aspects involved in the exercise of power and that ideas are legitimized on political discussions, this piece of work meant to analyze the discourses of political agents both governmental and non-governmental, about the public policies regarding the Amazonian Rainforest; presenting the main arguments of the speeches about the Rainforest; identifying any occurring differences between governmental and non-governmental agents; as well as, verifying if the public policies concerning the Amazon Forest have been fulfilling their purposes. The research method was qualitative, using questioning as a data collection instrument. After careful analysis of the results, it was possible to state that there are legitimized discourses about the Forest that do not match up with it’s reality.

She is currently a professor at the Tiradentes University, Professor of the Noble Faculty and Fiscal Adviser at the Sergipano Arbitration and Mediation Institute, working mainly on political science and public policy, environment, communication
Maria Luiza Figueiredo Heine, University of the State of Bahia - UNEB, Brazil
PhD in Education and Contemporaneity from the State University of Bahia (UNEB - 2013). She holds a degree in Philosophy (1980), Specialization in Regional History (1996) and a Masters in Regional Development and Environment from the State University of Santa Cruz (2004). She is currently an accredited professor at the State University of Bahia in the Professional Master's Degree in Management and Technology Applied to Education (Gestec). She has experience in Philosophy, with emphasis in Philosophy and Ethics, working mainly in the following subjects: Philosophy, Ethics and Environment. She is a member of the Research Group on Education, University and Region Research Group (EDUReg), registered in the National Directory of Research Groups / CNPq and also in RESEARCH-PROJECT LINES and PROJECTS / RESEARCH PROJECTS, in a project about the University's performance in the communities of your environment. Since July 2015 she has been working at Tiradentes University (UNIT), in the city of Aracaju (SE), working in the subjects of University Extension Practices.
