Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus followed at the Mozambican Diabetic Association. A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out, which included a retrospective review of data from 1753 patients followed at the Mozambican Diabetic Association between 2006 and 2016. The association between
hypertension and independent variables was established using the chi-square test and binary logistic regression analysis. The values were considered statistically significant if the p value <0.05. The prevalence of arterial hypertension was 48%. Participants in the age groups between 50 and 60 years and over 60 years and those with overweight and obesity are more likely to be hypertensive. Therefore, it is recommended to design policies aimed at weight control in patients with type 2
diabetes mellitus.
