Abstract

Blue Thinking is the concept and methodology behind the Blue Design Alliance. A new advanced higher education programme focused on the enhancement of water, ocean and river resources, as well as social and environmental sustainability through the application of design tools and methodologies.

ESAD - Escola Superior de Artes e Design is promoting the Blue Design Alliance - an alliance between four higher education institutions dedicated to one of our planet's most precious resources: water. This programme presents a funded and innovative training offer, using design as a driver for a more sustainable life.

The proximity of the sea, the growing concern about climate change and the urgent need to adopt more sustainable and responsible practices were the main reasons for the creation of the Blue Design Alliance, whose mission is to contribute to the training of skills linked to the blue economy.

In this article, we describe its practical-orientated methodology, geared towards the professional career of trainees, with a clear concern for the sustainability of ecosystems.
