Abstract

Portuguese, a heritage of various peoples around the world, is currently the official language of nine countries, and is also a working language in several international and regional organizations. Given its geographical dispersion in the world, the Portuguese language has varieties in all Portuguese-speaking countries. In the context of languages, Portuguese is one of the most spoken languages in the world, which gives it the status of a global language. Therefore, given its importance, Portuguese is taught, as a foreign language, in several universities in non-Lusophone countries, in Africa, Asia, America, Europe and Oceania. In addition to universities, several primary and secondary schools also include, in their curricula, the teaching of Portuguese as a non-native and a foreign language.
